New refuge in Pune
On 11 october 2008 the offical opening of our new refuge in Pune, India was performed. Of course the opening was done by Ms Triveni Acharaya, head of the Rescue Foundation, together with 101 rescued girls, in the presence of some government officials. This refuge costed 200.000 euro and could be achieved thanks to a subsidy of 100.000 euro from the NCDO and thanks to gifts from donors of PTN. Now that Rescue Foundation (RF) also officially is established in Pune (4 hours driving from Mumbai), we can perform liberation actions there and after the rescue, take in the children immediately in our brand new refuge!
According to Indian law, you should be officially established in a federal state and if you don’t meet that, the rescued children should be transferred to a government facility. These government facilities are awfull and are full of insane people. We have seen that rescued children remained confined there, even longer than 10 years, only because due to the Indian bureaucracy, not one policeman/woman felt like bringing them back to their native country (Nepal)! In the meantime already succesfull rescue actions have been accomplished in Pune and the liberated girls stay now in our own refuge. They receive loving care and guidance. They are escorted to the lawsuits against the kidnappers and pimps and they are also prepared for their return to Nepal.
Meanwhile the final accounting report is controled and approved by the NCDO. On behalf of these children, Rescue Foundation and the board of People’s Trust Netherlands, we thank all donors and the NCDO for your fantastic help!
