People’s Trust struggles against the childprostitution
Each year thousands of girls from Nepal, India and Bangladesh are victims of kidnappers. They are smuggled to Indian brothels and there every day are raped and misused. People’s Trust thinks this is the worst that can happen to a child. Therefore People’s Trust gives priority to the struggle against child prostitution.
With the help of People’s Trust in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune rescue teams are created, which already for fifteen years rescue girls out of the brothels and help them with their return in the society. People’sTrust works also together with partners in Nepal and Bangladesh to prevent child prostitiution and to ensure that the girls can return to their family. Currently People’s Trust is working on starting up a new rescueteam in Pune, 4 hours driving from Mumbai.
The rescue teams gather evidence in the prostitution quarters. That is a dangereous job. With a hidden camera they try to attract as less as possible attention. When there are abducted or minor girls and there is enough evidence, they set up a liberation action. Within some hours our rescue teams together with the local police, do a raid. Sometimes tens of girls are liberated simultaneously. On other times one, two or three. In total more than 2265 girls got back their freedom by the work of People’s Trust Netherlands. They could make a new start. Over 350 pimps and smugglers are condamned to long emprisonments.
People’s Trust is the only organisation in the Netherlands who have started rescue teams in India and also supports them financially, so that each year more and more girls can be liberated from the brothels. Besides the rescue of girls and the ensurance that they build up a new future, People’s Trust also works hard on the prevention of child prostitution. They do that for example by working on the development of remote villages in Nepal, by giving information services, for example by street theater and by supporting education projects.
The activities of People’s Trust are made possible by donations of private persons, foundations, companies and by subsidies from Dutch funds. People’s Trust can use your support always.
